  • ComEd Rate Declines Slightly

    19 April 2024: ComEd released its preliminary residential supply rate for the Energy Year June 2024 to May 2025. It has dropped 1/4 of a cent to 6.6¢ per kWh (annualized).

    The firm, final rate will be announced mid-May, and per previous years, is unlikely to deviate significantly from this initial announcement.

  • Riverside Offset 200 Million Lb Coal Burned

    The Village of Riverside may be the only community in Illinois to retain a 100% Green / Renewable Energy Aggregation program continuously since 2012. Current program continues to October 2024.

  • ComEd's Environmental Disclosure

    14 March 2024: For the year ending 31 December 2023, ComEd procured RECs, ZECs & CMCs totaling 90% of deliveries to retail customers. Coal-fired power decreased incrementally, with a like increase in nuclear power.

  • Changes Afoot at ComEd

    22 June 2023: ComEd has eliminated its plus-or-minus 1/2-cent cap for the monthly variable Purchased Electricity Adjustment (PEA). There is no longer an imposed limit.

    Also, ComEd did not procure a full load this year and may turn to the daily market to purchase power. It remains to be seen if these moves will result in increased volatility.

  • Good News, Bad News

    The ComEd supply rate is expected to decline slightly for the upcoming Energy Year June 2024 - May 2025.

    The Carbon-Free Energy Resource Adjustment (initially a credit of 4.3¢ per kWh), has flipped to a charge of 1.3¢ as pf May 2024. This charge supports nuclear generation and appears in the Taxes & Fees portion of the ComEd bill.

  • Buffalo Grove Renews Green Aggregation

    “We’re happy that Buffalo Grove recently renewed its Green Electric Aggregation Program, retaining our high ranking with the EPA, and all at zero added cost to the ComEd rate,” Mike Skibbe, Deputy Village Manager told us.

    The renewal commences at meter read dates in March 2023.

  • Hawthorn Woods: Preserving for Legacy

    Pamela Newton, Chief Operating Officer, is racking up awards: Governor’s Hometown for Environmental Initiatives, National America in Bloom, International Dark Sky Association, International Audubon Community.

    Their Electric Aggregation program, designed to promote sustainability initiatives, renews February 2023.

  • ComEd Warns of Scammers

    Discover ComEd’s tips on avoiding and reporting imposters, scams, and identity theft which increased once the moratorium on door-to-door soliciting (during the pandemic) was lifted.

    When residents are scammed or misinformed via nefarious tactics, our customer service works with the ratepayer to ensure their supply service is rightfully returned to their desired supplier.

  • Throwback: Tinley Park one of First in Illinois

    In 2018, the Environmental Enhancement Commission, then chaired by Antonio Halek, led efforts to become one of the first municipalities in Illinois to establish the ComEd Price Match Renewable Aggregation.

    Program suspended in 2022 due to reduced gas production during the Pandemic followed by the war in Ukraine creating price volatility; some analysts suggest this “perfect storm” may dissipate in 2023.

  • Palos Park Second in the Nation!

    Ann Debortoli, a Director at MC Squared Energy Services, presented the EPA Green Power Community Certification to now former Mayor John Mahoney and current Mayor Nicole Milovich-Walters. Palos Park was the second community in the USA to establish an Electric Utility Price Match 100% Green program.
